The Life and Times of Jim
Hi, there. I'm Jim. Welcome to my phlog!
This site was written for Las Vegas, then LouisVille. Now, it seems to be about anywhere. In these phlogs, you'll see a lot of my personal notes and pictures. I like to post my observations here to remember life and celebrate it. I'm not religious. I don't pray for good fortune. I'm ecstatically grateful for the gift of life and I think our time should be remembered and not taken for granted. I'm not a writer. I think pictures tell stories so much better than words. I love just about everything in this life, and, I guess that would have to include you. So, if you've seen me, don't be surprised if your picture is in here somewhere. Of all the critters, people are absolutely the most interesting.

 jim  Speaking of Bush...
isn't it kind of funny that the country is run by a Bush!!!
We have the most powerful Bush in the world right now...bwaaa-hahaha!
Hmmm, men in black at the door, honey, could you get that~~!

jim  Pollen...little green things that infest our nasal
The government has what they call a neutron bomb...
which when it blows up, it kills everything, but leaves buildings standing.
That is SO inhumane.
I would like to submit this to them...the POLLEN bomb.
They can get everything they need from my backyard. If they were to drop this bomb over, say, like, Iraq...see, all of the people there would simple leave (hacking, gagging, sniffling and sneezing), and all of the buildings would remain intact for the BUSH regeme to take over.

jim  Another Saturday has come and gone.
We filled up the dumpster Thursday with these amazon-like tree limbs with polleny leaves from my backyard. It took most of the day Friday: coughing, hacking, sneezing and wheezing to recover from that! I Started to fill up the dumpster again with the remainder of leaves, BUT...I'm in no hurry to go stomping around in that dumpster: getting more cut-up,red-eyed,itchy,sneezy,wheezy. Now, for anyone that's never seen my backyard, it has 3 tree's and 1 oleander, that in the summer time, form a tent like cover over the whole damn yard. No sun gets through it at all. MILLIONS OF LEAVES!!! Probably billions...it's a hell of a thing. I just want to BBQ back there, but I can't risk it all catching fire and sending up a smoke cloud like Mt St Helen's volcano did, that would circle the earth's atmosphere 25 times. That would be bad. :)

jim  Looks like Skip is all squared away
It's about time I made a new entry :) It looks like Skip is squared away and things are settling down. I still need to get Becky squared up. Two weeks ago, I was looking for a job and interviewing. Nothing much has come up since then (jobwise). Trying to get back into the swing can be a tough task.

I just found out in an email that Rod Fredrichs hadn't heard about Rob's passing away.
Rob, Rod, Chris and I used to hang out. Chris is gone, Rob is gone.
Rod and I are doing fine.
It would be nice if we wall could just live forever, wouldn't it.
I Just wanted to say...Rodney Friedrichs is, and always will be a friend of mine.

jim  It’s that time of decade to look for a job
It's that time of decade I guess to go out looking for work.
There's just one problem though, I've forgotten how.
Since 1978, the jobs have just come to me.
What do you do when the phone rings and it's not a job offer. Hmmmm.

Today turned out so much better than could be expected. IN SHORT, we had a BLAST! And that can't be bad.
Ate like pigs, danced like fools, laughed like jokers, it was all in the name of having fun.
If only every day could be this beautiful.

Well, it's turned from a Corned Beef and Cabbage day to a BBQ'd skewer day. Yum yum!
Becky, Dustin and Jennifer are here.
Hopefully when Robert and Joy come back over to pick them up, they'll have a healthy appetite, cause this stuff smells like heaven.

jim  Robert bought a 2001 Ford Ranger
Oh, didn't I mention that Robert bought a 2001 Ford Ranger!!! $16,000, no down, just a trade in, $150 a month for 6 months then he's got to refinance. High blue book was $7,800 and hopefully he got a square deal. I think he did well. It's his first loan, and the truck looks very impressive. 3 snaps and a clap for Robert!

jim  Most amount of money. Least amount of time
Now, the concept is "The most amount of money for the least amount of time". If this is the rule...it doesn't matter what anybody thinks about you along the way. The goal is to get the most out of our time. EG: If I can pick up old beer cans and make $85 an hour, who cares if thats sounds like lowlife work...I'll be singing from my balcony at the top of the mountain at all the people working there way up to shift supervisor at 7-11.

 jim  Car hunting with Robert
Robert and I went to Thrifty Auto for a crash course in Salesman chicanery and subterfuge. We got one half-truth from the guy...and that was how they decode the 4 digit number on all their vehicles into it's offer price, EG: 5011...transposed=1150. 1150*100 + 1,000=Top sale of $12,500.
Armed with that knowledge and a Kelley Blue Book, one can find the best deal on the lot!

 jim  Unloaded Skips stuff
Crawled out of bed this morning at the ringing of the phone. Robert came over and helped move me my step-brother in. We unloaded the truck, and he helped move furniture around so that the room could be properly populated with decades of Skip's belongings.

 jim  Back from San Francisco
Got Back from San Fransisco last night at 10pm. 25 hours of nonstop driving. This has been a killer of a week, and I love it. What's bizarre is I just watched a movie called Insomnia with Al Pacino and Robin Williams. Pacino's in Alaska during it's 6 month day cycle. He's getting delusional after days of sleep deprivision. That would be me right now. Phone just rang. Gonna exchange favors with someone. I've had 16 hours of sleep Since Sunday.

Picked Skip up in San Fransisco. Lots of driving. Watch DVD movies on my laptop on the way (man, did that make the 12 hour trip FLY). The trip was beautiful! Seeing Skip after 30 years was quite a shock too. We loaded up the truck with all of his stuff and it reminded me of the Beverly Hillbillies somehow. I know it may be illegal, but having that laptop, with it's map software, and it's DVD player is the only way I'm going to travel from now on. Movies keep you alert.

 jim  What do employers want?
I was thinking about my resume.
I did everything I said I did on it.
When I was 12, I fixed a broken clock and put it back together again.
If I had to do it again, it would take time to figure it out.
If that was all I did for a living, I could do it quickly.
I've done 1,000's of things since then, much more diverse, much more complicated.
WHAT DO EMPLOYERS WANT?
Someone who can do anything, or someone who does 1 thing only.

Expected to have company today, but got nothing but virtual guests. BBQ'd up some of the finest beef ribs, and the most scrumptious marinated steak I've ever eaten. Watched Spy Kids 3D(**), Insomnia(***) and Stargate(*****) just to blow off some time. Another week has ended with the resounding thud of unemployed butts hitting the couch. This next week will be about producing income.

Ya know, these people from South Dakota just want to go to Wallmart and we went to Walmart. But we also went to a Chinese Buffet in front of it. They had whole shrimp! I've never seen that before. Great food, good prices, great company...my kind of night.

Renee, Dustin, Jennifer, Robert, Joy and Chuck came by yesterday. They say things are so much better since Becky's Brother and Mom kicked her out. I'm still pondering on exactly how that could be. Becky is the kindest, most giving person I know. And they yelled at her, stole from her, or crapped on her...and they used me. Jerry Newberry's advice to GTFO was absolutely best thing to do.

The highlight of today was when my brother told me he was writting a comedy about Aliens who love our CRAP, and their CRAP is healthy for us. It starts when aliens are invited to a restaurant, use the bathroom and they think it's the buffet! HILARIOUS!!! This guy has some great ideas!

Busy day. Shampoo'd 1000 square feet of carpet here, hosed down the guest bathroom, hung pictures, installed IIS 5.0 on my XP Home Edition laptop (not supposed to be able too) and installed Active-Perl. I just love to play. It's been quiet here. No phone ringing, no knocks at the door. Becky and I did swing by to see Sharon Sheppard last night (which was very interesting).

Set up 2 bedrooms for rent today. Becky vacuumed, helped me rehang some pulled down curtains and throw away ruined linen. For the life of me, I'll never know why people rent rooms, but still I go on doing it. Videoconferenced Sonny today and cooked up a wonderful bouillabaisse!!! Saffron is definitely the most expensive spice on this planet: .06oz @ $16 = $267 an ounce. You would think the Columbian's would be harvesting it!

Gay marriage...now, is that really an election issue? Marriage laws have penalized some couples and helped others. It is a legal contract between two people. Marriage in some states say couples don't even have to be tax payers..go figure. But all in all, marriage is not a religious thing...remember separation of church and state, it's a political thing. Its how we are classified for taxation and vote mongering.

Its been 57 days since Rob took his life and I still don't know how to think about his death. I see my aging face in the mirror. The past is gone, but its etched itself into the wrinkles of my smile. And as I float through time's boundless regions, I still ask the question: "Why all this? Was anything that has happened in my life really necessary? And if so, for what possible purpose?"  Rob got his answer with one shot I suppose, but I'm gonna hang out for the end of this incredible ride. And maybe, on somebody else's face, I'll be etched into a wrinkle of their smile. I guess that's as good as any purpose in this incredibly short life.

Just a note about the Nevada State Contractors Board ---> doh! They said my roof contractor was a BAD MAN, guilty of all kinds of things...and if he paid $200 for the $100,000+ worth of bad roofs he did, he could have his license back. Can you believe that? The hearing had several parties all screwed by him. Oh, and that wonderful $40,000 Bond they put up to get their license...forget about it! Its a junk insurance bond, nobody gets it.
Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at 07:39:11 (PST) <Jim Cutlar>
Tuesday morning. Phones don't work here and it's the wiring somehow? Today is a good day to wire. I'm a witness at a hearing today. It's taken the Nevada State Contractors Board 6 years to have a hearing on the roofer who put shingles on my flat roof. So, Buyer Beware. Who cares if your contractor has a license or not? It didn't help me with my 3 ceilings and 2 walls semi destroyed by leaks. Roof technology is at least 3,000 years old. I would have been better off tieing palm leaves to my roof.

Back from LA. I gave Mike a nice send off. We ate at the Gladstone restaurant near Marina Del Ray (I think). The food was excellent. Mike moves out and Becky moves in. Next week, my Step-brother is coming. I'm so very tired. It's going to be a busy day tommorrow, and here I am after driving 12 hours. I've got to move the furniture I moved into Becky's house, back into this one, then straighten up for my brother-in-law coming, and get Becky squared away for work.

Its a rainy day in Vegas. It seems like it's raining all over the world.
Friday, February 20, 2004 at 20:08:26 (PST) <Jim Cutlar>
Well, Becky's living with me now. Becky's family is not as loyal as most I guess. We'll pick up the rest of her stuff later. It seems so cold, that her own Mom, out of pure self-interest, would get her brother to team up with her to kick her out. Becky kicked in over $1,200 a month to that household. Her Mom's not going to kick in a single penny. After her Mom heard Becky's son's girlfriend was pregnant, she used the excuse to kick Becky out because Becky "Didn't walk her kids to school". The school is 2 blocks away. Non of any of this makes 10 IQ points worth of sense to me. Unless her mom simply wanted to move back closer to her job. I think I've had smarter house plants!
Wednesday, February 18, 2004 at 11:05:06 (PST) <Jim Cutlar>

He's been shacking up here for a couple of years, now. I'm gonna miss the ol'boy. On the other hand, I'm gonna put my TV BACK in the bathroom when he moves out!!! Uh Oh. I told Becky I'd call her around 11pm. Since then, I've had visitors, and I've talked to Mike about him leaving in 2 weeks or so and about his rent. Dang, it's late now! I hope Becky's not mad at me for not playing online pool with her. :(. Jeese..the way things work sometimes is so unpredictable.

Talked to Jerry Newberry this morning. He broke his leg on an ATV..OUCH. Those things are so picky...guess you never put you're leg down while making a turn. It's instinct but the wheel sucks you right down under it. He's laid up for awhile.

Its funny how ya notice things. Like Mike, my roomie. He's collecting his stuff from around the house, and as usual, he's not paid me rent. What a guy! He hopes he's gonna get this job in CA, and he's gonna tell me another story about how he just forgot the rent money. What are friends for?
Wednesday, February 11, 2004 at 09:01:21 (PST) <Jim Cutlar>
GMorning. Its a crisp 51 degrees outside here in Las Vegas. I went by and visited Sonny last night. Talked to Allen and some girl he was hitting on in a chat room. Talked to Jimmy Leavelle. Now, I was drinking beer...but it seems funny how the pots often call the kettle black. lol. Whatever, I had a fun day. Brought little Jennifer over a 9 drawer dresser she so desperatly needed too! And that was a good thing.

It's been over a month since Rob Allred shot himself. He was my best friend up to the end. I hope I never get over those memories we shared. Rob, my Mom, and my stepdad's legacy's to me were the memories we shared. And as long as I'm alive, I'll tell people about them: their good thoughts, their good deeds, their good hearts. I hope more like them will come to exist. THANKS YOU GUYS!

Ya know, I always hoped computers would come up with one language to control them, maybe ENGLISH. I studied Cobol, Basic, and now I'm learning C, Javascript and Perl. It takes intimate knowledge of 5 languages to write ONE APPLICATION these days. While computers have pretty much the same instruction set as they did 20 years ago, people have come up with different instruction sets to be compiled into the same computer instructions and it's a frigg'n mess.
It's like, current programming technology was created by a one figured typist that was INSANE! ROTFL!!!

Ever notice that people always go all out for what want, but once they have it, it becomes ordinary. All girls give the best head in the beginning. After that, they sit on the couch, watch TV and scatter popcorn everywhere, then they blame the mess on you. LOL.

Another idea...ever try to find a laptop station for you car or truck...$300 to $500. Well, that's insane. All you need is a swivel, like a music stand, that pulls up or inserts with a docking station on it.

Hey Allen...want an invention. Invent a door log, a sign in sheet for anyone that comes over when you're not home...What the heck, we have answer machines for the phone.

 jim  Busy day. Shampood Carpet
