The Life and Times of Jim
Hi, there. I'm Jim. Welcome to my phlog!
This site was written for Las Vegas, then LouisVille. Now, it seems to be about anywhere. In these phlogs, you'll see a lot of my personal notes and pictures. I like to post my observations here to remember life and celebrate it. I'm not religious. I don't pray for good fortune. I'm ecstatically grateful for the gift of life and I think our time should be remembered and not taken for granted. I'm not a writer. I think pictures tell stories so much better than words. I love just about everything in this life, and, I guess that would have to include you. So, if you've seen me, don't be surprised if your picture is in here somewhere. Of all the critters, people are absolutely the most interesting.

jim  We finally got back to Vegas
We packed up everything in the apartment. Then we drove 32 hours across the country.
We got to Vegas with a truckload of stuff that we're going to have to throw away.
We had to bring the apartment stuff when we left.
The garbage was blocked up at the apartments when we left. That seems to happen a lot in high rises.
The truck was the only place we could put our junk.
Every room in this house is already full.
The room I wanted to use is now occupied.
So now, we have a truck load of stuff, and no place to sort it out.
During this next to sleepless week, I just didn't consider that.
I guess I kind of freaked out when I got here.
The master bathroom is out of commission, the heat wasn't working, and the car was dirty.
Sonny thought we wouldn't be coming until next week, so the place was a mess.
I would have warned him again,
but our cell phones couldn't find service anywhere on the trip.
I have been in EMERGENCY MODE!!!
We only have a couple of days, and they are full days!
I got hired Tuesday. This is the first Monday after Thanksgiving.
My credit card was denied access from over activity.
We leave Thursday morning for another 20 hour drive.
I'm tired, so tired, and I just got over the flu.
Today, I guess I have to do business.
I have to unpack the truck, throw away half of it,
and find what I need for the next few days out of it.
And on top of that, I'm going to have to throw stuff away from this house too.
I need to get a $1,000,000 general liability policy
or not even go to Seattle.
Then I need to talk to my accountant,
and get all the papers I need to run a corp from a hotel room.
This all seems like too much.
But if I have to sacrifice my sleep and sanity,
I'll do it, just to get through this week.
I just have to be methodical and organized.
I will get through this.
I guess the moral of this story is.
Be careful what you wish for, you just might just get it.
I wanted a full and exciting life, and I've got it.

jim  The trip back to Vegas
New Mexico is pretty when it snows.
Boulder Damn! It takes more than an hour to cross it, even at 10pm on Sunday night.
After 32 hours of driving, we made it back to Home-Sweet-Home, in Las Vegas

jim  Today was quite an exceptional day.
We saw Preacher Scott at the parade.
He's also our security guard at the door of Kentucky Towers.
There was a chemistry between Scott, Peter, and Susan.
One that I may never understand. They are so different, and so alike.
Becky and I have just hovered around these three, being part of them as they mixed with people coming in and out of the building. It was so incredible.
Peter's gone now. He's in Michigan.
We're leaving tommorrow. We'll be in Seattle by Friday.
Preacher Scott will be leaving soon. His education will be complete.
The group has broken up.
But for a time, there was something so incredibly powerful, and wonderful about being part of this group.
It is something that I will remember for the rest of my life.
Hopefully, some of these times come through, from the pictures I took.
I can only hope, that documenting these times was the part I was supposed to play.
For all times to come.

BTW - If you guys read this, feel free to reply to it (if you can figure out my coding style).

 jim  Thanksgiving Parade
Now, this the way to blow out of Louisville. We had fireworks, parades, and listened to several bands.
Its all free.
Louisville is a town that cares about its youth, and its elderly.
It can, because the taxes are so high!!!
lol.
But, I'd rather they get the money from me and do their thing with it, than me saving it.
Louisville is a very thoughtful city.
In Louisville, everyone is a celebrity. Below is Preacher Scott.
He is intelligent, witty, and just a lot of fun to be with. He has never preached a word to us. Instead, his actions greater than anything he could say about the Lord. He is a good man.
The Lord's love flows through him.
You can feel it. He doesn't have to tell you how good he is.
You just know it
Louisville parties likes it 1999. Below are Jesse and Chris, the Pub-lashers. They're great to hang out with. When its dead on 4th Street Live, they are out front, cheering people on. It's hilarious.

 jim  Why Why Why
Why do we press harder on a remote control when we know the batteries are getting dead? Why do banks charge a fee on "insufficient funds" when they know there is not enough money? Why does someone believe you when you say there are four billion stars, but check when you say the paint is wet? Why do they use sterilized needles for death by lethal injection? Why doesn't Tarzan have a beard? Why does Superman stop bullets with his chest, but ducks when you throw a revolver at him? Why do Kamikaze pilots wear helmets Whose idea was it to put an "S" in the word "lisp"? If people evolved from apes, why are there still apes? Why is it that no matter what color bubble bath you use the bubbles are always white?  Is there ever a day that mattresses are not on sale? Why do people constantly return to the refrigerator with hopes that something new to eat will have materialized? Why do people keep running over a string a dozen times with their vacuum cleaner, then reach down, pick it up, examine it, then put it down to give the vacuum one more chance? Why is it that no plastic bag will open from the end on your first try? How do those dead bugs get into those enclosed light fixtures? When we are in the supermarket and someone rams our ankle with a shopping cart then apologizes for doing so, why do we say, "It's all right?" Well, it isn't all right, so why don't we say, "That hurt, you stupid idiot?" Why is it that whenever you attempt to catch something that's falling off the table you always manage to knock something else over? In winter why do we try to keep the house as warm as it was in summer when we complained about the heat? How come you never hear father-in-law jokes? And my FAVORITE......The statistics on sanity are that one out of every four persons is suffering from some sort of mental illness. Think of your three best friends -- if they're okay, then it's you.

jim  The hardest word to say is goodbye
I reunited with Rod for 5 months.
We were apart for almost 10 years.
And once again, we said good bye.
Rod went north on I65. I went south.
Until we meet again my friend.
I'm going to miss Rod.
You are, and always will be, my friend!
BTW-These images you can click on.

Vegans never drive 10 miles to visit.
In Louisville, it is a common thing.
Vegans meet their friends at work.
Kentuckianans make friends anywhere, then get together with them.
If I'd lived here for 30 years I'd have 1,000's of friends by now. If I had another life to live, I'd spend it here, in Louisville.

 Jim  Veterans Day
Veterans Day is an American holiday honoring military veterans. Both a federal holiday and a state holiday in all states, it is celebrated on the same day as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day in other parts of the world, falling on November 11, the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I.

 jim  .time stamps
I started using the server's time, which was in Eastern USA.
That worked, until we moved back to Vegas.
Then it just looked odd.
So I changed the time stamp to the persons PC/Laptop time.
However, a lot of people don't care about their PC/Laptop times.
So that looked odd, but it was better.
I should take a few minutes though, and put a column called the GMT in the tables, but, I just haven't done it yet.
Then there is the who replied to who thingy
If I write a log to the Louisville Log, it shows up in my log and Louisville's log.
But if you reply to me, it comes up in your log and my log, not Louisville's log.
We should have a meeting about this!
I've been meaning to stop by, but we've just been hanging out around the apartment lately.
We almost walked to your place yesterday, if halfway up the 2nd Street Bridge counts.

jim  .Saying Good Bye to Peter!
Saying goodbye to Peter is a sad thing.
I think he's been at Kentucky Towers for 13 years.
From the very beginning, he'd been the one who would hang out with us in the rain, greeting people as they came and left.
Peter enjoys everyone he meets, and everyone enjoys his humor and wit.
And he knows EVERYBODY at TGIF's on 4th Street.
He's a computer consultant, like me, working and taking time off.
But I guess all things must come to an end.
He's settling down in Michigan, and taking a full time job.
It's a 5 hour drive from here to there, so we won't be seeing much of him.
Kentucky Towers and TGIF's won't be the same without him.
We will all miss you Peter.
You will always be my friend.

jim  The life of a consultant...
You work. You make good money.
Your contract ends. You wait.
You wonder if you'll ever work again.
It takes a level of faith to do what I do.
What happens if the phone doesn't ring, or if I don't get that email for my next contract?
This is the second time I've ventured out-of-state for a contract.
I don't know where I'll be working next.
I don't how much I'll be making.
Being in between is awkward.
I could never do this if I was alone.
But there are benefits.
You get plenty of time off.
You get to see new places.
You get to make new friends.
The sad thing is, you are in a world all of your own.
Few people understand what its like, not being attached to a job.

jim  Jesse came by...burned his hand really bad!
We offered him vinegar ice water and beer.
It was a small offering. He drank it all.
It was nice that he came to us.
I was amazed.
We haven't told many people where we live. We go out a lot.
Jesse is a popular guy. He's got an excellent personality.
Anyway, he hung out and watched a movie with us, while soaking his hand in beer.
And then he mozied off to his 7th floor apartment.

 jim  Talked to Tony N
He's doing well. He's programming in C#, and doing web programming.
They only worry about IE and FireFox, which is a relief.
All I test for on this website IE, Firefox, and now, Safari. Netscape is just too rough to code for.
Anyway, Tony's found the Lord, and quit drinking, which is cool.
I believe whatever leads you to doing the right thing in life, is the right thing to follow.
So, he's doing GREAT! He sounds GREAT! He is GREAT!
And I am glad I called my old friend.
